Your ruminations on bureaucracy have some ambivalence built in. You are grateful and very lucky,
to have encountered a couple of human beings who assisted you in your frustration with obtuse forms etc. The bureaucracy is dense and incomprehensible mostly , but you, or we, don’t want it to be shredded !!!!! We rely on the chance encounter with a real person who will throw us a life line . I guess that’s why we need them, civil servants, though meeting them in the virtual world is a random and divine gift.
Heartbreaking about the death of the young man. A wrenching , cold, dark week with maybe a glimmer of a path ….
And yes, I agree, we do NOT want the bureaucracy shredded to pieces because right now it’s all we have. In an optimal world, with a government thatcared about its people, effort would be made to streamline bureaucracy.
Thank you Julie for poignant reflections on caring and now endangered public servants and the ubiquity of guns and gun violence. How could we end up here in 2025? It does feel good to make our voices heard with more to come.
I feel the beginnings of resistance. Boycotts might be very effective since money is the only language that oligarchs understand. If Musk weren’t a sociopath, he could singlehandedly end hunger in this country tomorrow and still live a life of unparalleled luxury and entitlement. He could also improve public education. However, fascists prefer an under educated population.
Feeling right there with you. How did we get here again?!!
