We are surrounded by rivers, so there may be a connection. We live on a lake with the river running through it. Right now we're in a Level 1 drought and now need to drive our boats where the river runs below. The lake is man-made. It's called Lake Hartwell.
Yes. It starts north of us and flows all the way down to Savannah, GA. There are dams all along the way. Usually, after July 4th, our water level drops because it is used south of us for electricity. I'm not sure what will happen this year with the use of water.
Some years back, I was leading annual workshops near Austin, TX. I went three years in a row, all drought years. A similar situation there where the river is dammed and forms Lake Austin. By the third year, the water levels had dropped significantly and even native trees were dying. It was quite alarming to see. So I hope rain comes to you. Europe is baking...here in the Hudson Valley we are having a mild summer so far.
indeed...as are the clam and oyster shells. I have a feeling this bone was once attached to a dog. Or maybe a roast beef? Today one of our construction crew told me that the alley street behind our house was the first street in town, a through road to the next town over. This might explain some of the detritus...stuff tossed out of a horse and buggy on the way from point A to B...?
What treasure troves! Your diet sounds much like our Georgia red clay.
Is your land also in a river bed? I am not a geologist but I am now so curous about how different kinds of earth come to be.

I hope you get rain. So the lake is the river dammed up in certain sections?

Thank you, Julie. We pray for rain and include some rain dances when necessary. We also pray for heat relief for Europe.
